By harnessing the power of volunteers and a purpose-built machine called a Snowdog, the Friends of Jasper National Park are able to flat-pack trails to produce a smooth and supportive trail base that allows all users to enjoy Jaspers winter trails without having to spin their tires or sink deep into the snow. Just as we got out of the car, the rangers were closing the bathrooms for the season and said that this hike would be closed in the morning because of getting snow overnight! We bundled up as the wind was whipping and cold and walked up about a half mile uphill, mostly dirt, some rocks, needed to rest halfway up.
